Geothermal Heating & Cooling 

Geothermal heating and cooling best applies to residential buildings and commercial applications with balanced or simultaneous heating and cooling demand.  Geoflow has the highest qualifications for geothermal system design in Australia.  Dr Amir Kivi has a PhD in geothermal engineering from The University of Melbourne, and he is one of only two certified geothermal designers in Australia with more than 7 years’ experience on more than 40 geothermal projects.

Solar Thermal Systems for Space Heating & Cooling and Hot Water

Geoflow has partnered with Savosolar from Finland, who manufacture the most efficient solar thermal collectors in the World.  Solar thermal systems best apply to applications with high heating or cooling demand.  Geoflow focuses mainly on large-scale applications, such as heating greenhouses, poultry farms and dairy farms which have heating as one of their major costs.

 

Building Energy Modelling/Energy Assessment

For all projects, it is critical to first determine the hourly energy demand for the building/application.  Geoflow only suggests energy solutions that will provide the best real-world return on investment. 

For new buildings, GeoFlow uses specialist 3D building modelling software to calculate the hourly heating and cooling load.  For existing buildings, Geoflow uses the hourly meter data to assess the energy demand.  The data is then used in the design and feasibility assessment of a range of renewable energy solutions for the building. 

The hourly energy demand data is also used to provide compliance with the National Construction Code (NCC) and to deliver an ESD report. 

 

Feasibility Studies:  Geoflow assesses the real-world cost savings from implementing a range of potential renewable energy solutions, to ensure that the client makes the best decision for their energy-saving investment. 

 

Other Renewables like Solar Electricity and Battery Storage

Unlike other solar electric system installers, Geoflow will not recommend solar electricity unless it is proven to be the most cost-effective solution for the client.  Geoflow simultaneously looks at all renewable energy system types for each project, including combinations of solar electricity, battery storage, solar thermal and/or geothermal systems, using specialist 3D computer software.  Geoflow also analyses the dynamic interaction between demand and renewable energy systems on an hour by hour basis.

Dr Amir Kivi, at GeoFlow Australia, has a PhD from The University of Melbourne on geothermal and sustainable heating and cooling systems.  He has been accredited as a geothermal designer and installer by IGSHPA and AEE – the peak international organization responsible for the standards and manuals for geothermal systems.  He has also been involved in the design and installation of more than 45 high-efficiency geothermal heating/cooling solutions in Australia.

Dr Kivi is also an energy assessor and provides Energy Rating Assessments, Commercial Energy Rating Assessments (Section J) and energy efficiency assessments for the purpose of Building Code of Australia, Deemed to Satisfy (DTS) assessments.

Since 2016, Geoflow Australia has focused on combining solar hot water and geothermal energy storage systems to meet the high energy demands of the commercial sector and new residential suburbs.  Read more about the application of solar thermal and geothermal for residential buildings in Appendix 1. Geoflow Australia is now the designer of Australia’s largest solar hot water system that is planned to be installed around June 2019.

Dr Miramini completed his PhD at the department of Infrastructure Engineering at The University of Melbourne.  He has over 3 years of experience working as a Senior HVAC Design Engineer, and has been involved with over 100 HVAC solutions for residential, commercial and industrial projects.  He has a particular expertise in solar heating and solar absorption cooling.
